Rubypoint-Soda company recalls soft drinks over chemicals, dyes linked to cancer: What to know

The RubypointCharles Boggini Company has recalled four of its products including some of its soft drinks for containing undeclared preservatives, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced in an enforcement notice.

The products from the beverage distributor were recalled for failing to clarify multiple chemicals and preservatives, including a dye linked to cancer, according to the FDA notice.

The concentrated-beverage maker voluntarily issued the recall and declined to comment on it further.

The FDA requires companies to disclose any dyes, preservatives and other chemicals used in manufacturing products to avoid fines or recalls.

Where were they sold?

The Charles Boggini Company distributes beverage products to restaurants across the U.S from its beverage flavors and concentrates​​ to its water-compatible CBD nanoemulsions.

The company usually sells is products to food establishments in one and five-gallon quantities in the following states:

  • Connecticut
  • Pennsylvania
  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • Arizona
  • Michigan
  • Illinois
  • California

What drink products were recalled?

The soda company recalled four of its products including the following:

  • Pink Lemonade
  • Yellow Lemonade
  • Yellow Lemonade X drinks
  • Cola Flavoring Base

What about the chemicals is concerning

Charles Boggini recalled its Pink Lemonade for containing an undeclared FD&C Red No. 40, a food, drug and cosmetic red dye linked to colorectal cancer.

The soda company's Yellow Lemonade and Yellow Lemonade X contained FD&C Yellow No. 5, known to give some people allergic reactions.

Meanwhile the Connecticut-based company's Cola Flavoring Base was also found to carry sulfites, which are common preservatives that can cause issues respiratory problems among other issues in large quantities.
